Clips From Lea

This is the last video I'll be able to post until after Jeepers and Jeep Jamboree :( and then I'm sure you'll be getting some Jeeping videos.
This is a few clips Lea put together of our wildflower hikes, which you'll probably notice have me in them a lot ..... I think she's getting even for all the videos I've posted of her.

Carson Pass To Lake Winnemucca

Just Lea and I on a hike to view the great wildflowers in the Sierras. We started at Carson Pass and hiked past Frog Lake to Lake Winnemucca. I took my High Definition Canon along but what you see here was all shot with what I call my "pocket camcorder". At some point I'll try to post the HD video when I have a better internet connection.

The High Sierras In Bloom

Lea and I have hiked up to Lake Winnemucca 3 times in the past 10 days because the wildflowers are peaking right now.  The peak period only lasts for about 2 weeks each summer and that can happen anytime between the beginning of July to mid August depending on the weather.  Most years we miss it because we're deep into work, but this year it happened just before we started working.  This is classic High Sierra country with the elevation of the hiking trail ranging between 8,000 and 9500 feet.

Lea has been shooting a lot of high definition video, I've shot some stills and of course a lot of video with my pocket camcorder.  We'll both be posting videos but until then I thought I'd post a few photos.

This is what it looks like when you're walking along the trail looking down ..... looking up is a whole other experience.
Indian Paintbrush mixed in with Lupine.
Some of the trees, dead and alive, along the trail.
The view of Red Lake as seen from Frog Lake, which is a short side trip off the trail to Winnemucca Lake.  Lea and I have done a lot of fishing at Red Lake ..... don't ask me why they call "red".   As you can see .... there was a storm brewing.  We didn't get rained on but we did get a good thunder and lightning storm.  I would guess that the elevation here is around 8500 feet and I recall looking up from Red Lake when we were fishing and always seeing some patches of snow above.

Winnemucca Lake Trail Hike

A short sampling of the Winnemucca Lake Trail starting at Woods Lake in Alpine county of the High Sierras. This trail is well known for it's beautiful wildflower display for a short period every summer. I spent most of the day shooting stills but pulled my pocket camcorder out a few times to capture some video. We're heading back out there today but taking a different trail. The elevation goes from around 8000 feet to a little over 9000 feet so you'll notice that there's still some snow and a lot of wet ground from the melting snow. You have to make friends with the mosquitos.

Fireworks On The Lake

I went with our friends and neighbors, Dick and Donna out on their boat last night to watch the fireworks over the lake. It's pretty hard to shoot fireworks on a rocking boat but here's a short clip.

4th Of July at Lake Tahoe Valley Campground

Tahoe Valley Campground in Lake Tahoe on the 4th of July. Gets a little crowded as the "weekend warriors" settle in for the 3 day holiday.  We reside on the fringe, with the summer campers, so we're fortunate in not being such a big part of the holiday crowds.
I took a little bike ride through the campground with my video camera mounted on the handlebars. The campground roads are cracked, pot holed, and completely bumpy throughout so hang on and if you're subject to motion sickness ..... you may want to avoid this video.  Pause it and let it load before continuing to play.

Double Dip Day

Millie loves to run and up until today we have only let her off leash at the beach in Lake Tahoe.  Today we took the dogs to the beach and then for a hike to see how Millie would do.  She did really well and passed the test so she and Andi will be joining us on a lot of our hikes.  Here's the video that Lea shot of both the beach and hike.  This is a high definition video so you may want to pause it for a little while after you start to play it so it can load a bit.
